lmost every golfer on the planet is seeking ways to hit it further off the tee without sacrificing accuracy.  Physics dictate that, with club head speed of100mph, a centred strike with a driver will deliver a maximum of 150mph of ball speed.  The more ball speed you can get, the more distance you can achieve.  So if your strike is relatively central with your driver, your swing mechanics are sound and you have the correct combination of shaft, loft and golf ball, the way to hit it further is through more club head speed.  Cobra have designed their latest offering –DarkSpeed - with this in mind – to give the player more club head speed.

Cobra have enlisted aerospace engineers to design a clubhead that is more aerodynamic.  With moreefficient design, the DarkSpeed driver has less resistance and drag throughoutthe golf swing to deliver more clubhead speed with the same swing.  Couple with this the AI designed face(there’s that term again!) to deliver more efficient energy transfer across theclub face.  This means that shots thedon’t hit the centre of the club face have less energy loss.  Remember our 100mph swing giving a maximum of150mph of ball speed on a centred strike? This more forgiving face is designed to give that sort of smash factoror energy transfer across a bigger section of the club face.

There are three different head types in the new DarkSpeeddriver –

Max – for the player looking for a draw shape off the teewith maximum launch

X – designed with interchangeable head weights andadjustable hosel sleeve to give more control over spin, launch and direction

LS – for the high speed player looking for lower launch, less spin and more workability

These drivers look great at address with classic shape andjet black colourway.  See if you cangenerate more club speed with just a change of club.  Speak to our PGA Professionals about tryingthe new Cobra DarkSpeed so you can get the optimal combination of shaft, headdesign and loft for greater distance with better dispersion.

Fitting
Is there a benefit to switching to an oversized grip?
Oversize grips, once thought suitable only for those with large hands or arthritis, are now recognised as beneficial for various golfers, offering advantages such as increased grip surface area, reduced hand pressure, improved shock absorption, and enhanced alignment. These grips can promote a smoother swing, better shot consistency, and improved accuracy, although they may not suit all players, necessitating individual experimentation to find the best fit for one's swing characteristics and preferences.

What is Dynamic Loft, and How Can We Optimise It?
Dynamic loft in golf, determined by factors like swing technique and angle of attack, should ideally be around 70% of the club's static loft, adjusted based on swing speed and desired ball flight, crucial for shot trajectory and distance, but should be considered alongside spin rates, with adjustments possible through angle of attack and hand position, best analysed with guidance from PGA Professionals.

What Exactly Is Gear Effect?
Gear effect in golf involves the influence of a ball's flight path by the location of impact on the clubface, where off-center hits cause the clubhead to twist, resulting in spin that affects shot accuracy and distance, highlighting the importance of understanding and minimizing its impact, especially with faster clubhead speeds, as it can lead to unexpected ball flights regardless of club type.
